A native son of Mt Pleasant, Kevin was surrounded by veterinary medicine from birth. His father, retired veterinarian K.C. Shuler, practiced in Mt. Pleasant from the 1970s-2000s. The Lowcountry runs in Kevin’s blood and defines who he is. His childhood was filled with memories of visits to the famous soda fountain at Pitt Street Pharmacy and attending Mount Pleasant public schools, both within a short bicycle ride from his home. As Kevin reached his teen years, he cultivated his love of all creatures great and small by working at both his father’s and uncle’s veterinary hospitals during the school year. The summers were spent on the cattle and peach farm in Holly Hill, SC with his farming side of the family. There he not only learned how to manage livestock but also how to conduct business with people who would come to buy the cows and peaches. Kevin’s interests led him to Clemson University where the College of Agriculture laid the foundation for his veterinary career. There he met and later married Laura (Huckabee) Shuler. After completing his undergraduate studies, Kevin spent a year of veterinary school in St. Kitts before returning stateside to finish at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Home has always been Mt. Pleasant so it was here he returned to begin his veterinary practice with his wife, Laura, and father at the family business. In his leisure time, Kevin can be found on a tennis court or coaching his boys’ various sports teams or attending one of his beloved Clemson Tiger football games. More than anything, though, he loves making a difference to every “furry patient” he meets to ensure that both pet and owner are satisfied with their care.
