Gold-Standard Surgical Care.

Surgery

When surgery is required, we strive to make our patients as comfortable as possible and keep families informed throughout the procedure. This continuity of care begins during the pre-surgical visit and carries through to your pet’s dismissal and aftercare.

Our surgical services involve soft tissue as well as certain orthopedic procedures. Some of our more routine operations include:

  • Spays
  • Neuters
  • Cherry eye correction
  • Tumor/mass removals
  • Abdominal surgeries (example: cystotomy)
  • Oral surgeries
  • Biopsies
  • Cryosurgery
  • Electrocautery

Cryosurgery is a great alternative to standard surgery for the removal of dermal (skin) masses that do not require biopsy.

This well proven, highly effective alternative surgery can be used on a broad range of skin problems. It is very accurate and therefore spares surrounding tissue from damage. This allows it to be used in very delicate areas such as the mouth, ears and eyes.

Pets do not need to be anesthetized because cryosurgery is practically painless. In addition to eliminating the cost of anesthesia, there is no need for sterile prep and it takes much less veterinarian time than general surgery.

Your pet’s comfort and well-being before, during, and after a surgical event is important to us. Our trained veterinary team of doctors and staff use anesthesia protocols that are safe and effective for your pet’s needs with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and vigilant staff to provide your pet with utmost attention.

During surgical procedures, Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital provides specialized care such as:

  • Use of state-of-the art SurgiVet®️ equipment to monitor your pet’s heart, lungs, blood oxygenation, temperature, carbon dioxide levels, and blood pressure
  • IV fluid therapy
  • Use of a Bair Hugger®️ convective body warmer
  • Various anesthetic options such as those that are easily controlled and reversible and come in the form of injection or inhalant
  • Multimodal pain management throughout the pre-surgical, surgical, and recovery process
  • A personal surgical and recovery nurse assigned to each patient
  • Detailed discharge instructions for convalescence

For more advanced procedures, we work closely with area Board Certified surgeons to allow you and your pet to have the best available care at all times.

MPAH pet laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light that have a strong anti-edema, anti-inflammatory effect on exposed tissues. Painful conditions accompanied by swelling or inflammation benefit from this technology.  Photons of laser energy penetrate deeply into tissue and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth.  As a result of exposure to this therapy, the cells of muscles, tendons and ligaments experience more rapid repair.  Pain subsides very quickly as inflammation is reduced.  In simple terms, laser energy kick-starts the healing process, thereby speeding recovery.
