Janette Blackwood grew up in Georgia with a strong interest in biological sciences and a love for animals. She met and befriended Drs. Kevin, Laura, and Marian Shuler through the Clemson University Pre-Vet Club while earning her BS degree in Animal Science. Janette earned her veterinary degree from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. In 2006, she returned to beautiful South Carolina and has enjoyed practicing veterinary medicine in many forms, including traveling across the state as a relief veterinarian and co-owning her own practice. She was absolutely thrilled to reconnect with her friends from Clemson and continue her career by joining the team at Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital in 2022.
Janette has a passion for decreasing pet stress during veterinary visits and received her certification in veterinary Low Stress Handling in 2019. When not at work, you may find her volunteering with her church, spending time outside exercising or walking her dog Cindy. You may also find her with her husband on weekends freezing inside the Carolina Ice Palace while cheering on her son’s ice hockey team.
