Radiology for Pets
Radiology/Radiographs are used to diagnose various internal problems such as:
- Bone Fractures
- Bladder Stones
- Mass/Tumor Detection
- Swallowed Items or Lodged Foreign Objects
OFA Certification also requires X-Ray images of the hips and elbows to assess joint laxity.
The images obtained are developed immediately for interpretation by our dedicated doctors. The patient rarely needs sedation but may depending on the number of pictures required, restraint needed for proper positioning, or if the images are needed for OFA Certification. In general, X-Rays are painless and non-invasive and an excellent way to help diagnosis illness and injury.
Dental Radiology for Pets
Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital has digital dental radiography capabilities, utilizing the latest technology to produce instant images of the skull region in extreme detail. Our machine can:
- Detect Damaged Tooth Roots
- Expose Periodontal Disease
- Uncover Nasal Tumors
- Locate Foreign Bodies (grass awns, fish hooks, etc.)
- Identify Hard or Soft Palate Abnormalities
- Expose Oral Cancers and Other Masses
- Locate Non-erupted Teeth
Non-dental uses of this state-of-the-art technology include it’s use to detect small bone fractures in extremities such as in the feet and tail regions.
For your convenience and ours, we offer two options to our patients undergoing either regular or dental radiography procedures. You may choose to drop off your pet or wait while we take, process, and interpret the images.
